Apa Itu Audio Lingual Method Essay

My Opinion on the Audio - Lingual Method

In my opinion this method is good if you want to learn a new language, because the majority of the drills it uses are easy and practical to reproduce. Repetition is key if you want to learn any new language and it creates like a pattern in your mind after a while and reproducing it all the time. Some advantages I find in the Audio - Lingual Method is that repetition helps the students understand how words should be pronounced in the correct way and how they should sound when you speak them. Also mimicry is very important in this method because the student has to learn how to mimic their teacher in this case they have the advantage that the 'native speaker" which is a person who naturally speaks the language will correct them and the student has a better chance to understand the language and to speak the language as fluently as possible. The disadvantages I find in this method is that people would probably learn how to speak the language but they will not have the ability to read and especially write in the target language, because the main focus of the Audio - Lingual Method is listening and speaking but not reading and writing, you don't get to perfect the entire package and that is a huge down fall for me, because I think that people should learn how to speak fluently but also know how to write fluently. The activities used in this method are easy to understand and to reproduce, but after a while they start to feel very boring and the student can probably start to lose interest in the class and the purpose will not be achieved. This method has its advantages but also, its disadvantages it all depends in trying and giving our best and try different drills to see if they are useful for our advantage or not.

Communicative Language Teaching and Audio-Lingual Method: Definition
Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is an approach to the teaching of second and foreign languages that emphasizes interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning a language. It is also referred to as “communicative approach to the teaching of foreign languages” or simply the “Communicative Approach.”
The Audio-Lingual Method, or the Army Method, is a style of teaching used in teaching foreign languages. It is based on behaviorist theory, which professes that certain traits of living things, and in this case humans, could be trained through a system of reinforcement—correct use of a trait would receive positive feedback while incorrect use…show more content…

“These immediate objectives imply three others: first, control of the structures of sound, form, and order in the new language; second, acquaintance with vocabulary items that bring content into these structures; and third, meaning, in terms of the significance these verbal symbols have for those who speak die language natively” (Brooks ). Long-range objectives “must be language as the native speaker uses it. . . There must be some knowledge of a second language as it is possessed by a true bilingualist” (Brooks ).
Compare and contrast in terms of Roles of Teacher and Student:
There are distinctions between communicative language teaching and audio-lingual method in terms of the roles of teacher and student. In audio-lingual method, the teacher’s role is central and active; it is a teacher-dominated method. The teacher models the target language, controls the direction and pace of learning, and monitors and corrects the learners’ performance. Language learning is seen to result from active verbal interaction between the teachers and learners. On the other hand, in communicative language teaching the learner plays the central role and the teacher acts as a mediator.
Teachers in communicative classrooms will find themselves talking less and listening more–becoming active facilitators of their students’ learning (Larsen-Freeman, ). The teacher sets up the exercise,
